| Fundamentals of Modal Testing | Tutorial |
Description: The preface of this 56 page reference from Agilent reads "Modal analysis is defined as the study
of the dynamic characteristics of a
mechanical structure. This application
note emphasizes experimental
modal techniques, specifically the
method known as frequency response
function testing."

| Computer Architecture and Interfacing to Mechatronic Systems | Book |
Description: From the books introduction: "The purpose of this book is to address the links that need to be bridged between
modern electronic and mechanical equipment. In other words, we look at the issue of
what a mechanical or manufacturing engineer needs to know in order to sensibly design
mechatronic systems. We also introduce the basic concepts that electrical / electronics
engineers will need to understand when interfacing computer systems to mechanical
devices."

| eMachineShop | 3D CAD |
Description: eMachineShop.com is a company that allows you to order custom machined parts over the web. They have free 3D CAD software that can be downloaded, and an excellent reference page on the different types of machines used in manufacturing.

License: Commercial Price: Free URL: http://www.emachineshop.com OSs: Windows Limitations: You can download eMachineShop's 3D CAD software for free. They have a very nice summary of the different types of machines used for machining, also free. If you use them to make parts, then you pay. The software, of course, it intimately tied to use of eMachineShop.com as your supplier. But that seems only fair. ReviewText: eMachineShip.com came to our attention via a reference in "Machine Design" magazine. Upon visiting their website, we were instantly captivated by the excellent video tutorials describing how to design custom mechanical components using their free software. Their Machines Reference Page describes dozens of machines used in the manufacturing of custom parts. This is a great site to visit if you want to break out of a pure EE role. Downloading their software was trivial, and it came complete with an extensive help system and canned examples. The software will even analyze your design and give you price estimates (although you will have to wait a few minutes while your PC thinks). All in all, a very nice package.
